Must Have, Don't Need
Dammit, why do they do this to me? iLife '05, iWork, iPod shuffle, and most especially, the Mac Mini.
I want I want I want. $79 + $79 + $99 + 499 = $654.
But I don't need the iPod shuffle, I've got an iPod mini. Don't need the Mac mini, we have an iMac G4, a Power Mac G5...the list goes on and on...
Ahhhh, Mac mini...you own me.

They're wicked tempters, I tell you. Wicked!
Must. Do. Taxes. Must. Have. Refund. Must. Spend. All. On. Apple.

I have four PC's in my house and the recent gift of an iPod may have converted me. The Mac Mini has confirmed my conversion, the PC's are on their way out and the first Mac Mini is on order. It's going to live attached to the plasma tv, oh what fun we'll have together.

Just be careful, Todd. Plasma TVs can burn in VERY quickly (like on the order of 15 minutes).
you may not want to drive that display from any computer. Unless of course you're just running the iTunes visualizer. :)

So I did succumb to the iPod Shuffle. It's ordered. iWork and iLife05 are just the yearly maintenance fee. :)
Maybe Apple needs to release the iSlave so that I can publically wear the corporate servitude collar I carry in my heart. :)

Sadly, I think I'm buying one in the next few months. I need something to back up my powerbook "just in case." And it'd be nice to have a real desktop again. A nice shiny little box sitting on my desk :)

Sorry Lee, but that iPod Shuffle is ding dang dorkiest thang i've seen in ages. I *seriously* doubt we'll see many Manhattanites riding the subway with *that* thing hanging from their neck. They've ALL got iPods already, anywhow.
And NO display? Which they are spinning as 'freedom from decisions'? Snerk!
And please note the product warning at the bottom of the iShuffle page..
"Do not eat the iPod shuffle."
um...do not EAT?

Clearly Manhattan's RDF generator is on the blink. ;)
If I didn't have an iPod mini, I'd get a shuffle in a heartbeat. "Shuffle" is how I listen to my music. I don't usually even bother with playlists, and a couple hundred songs, carefully chosen and played on shuffle, would completely suit me for commutes and for the gym.
Putting a display on something so small with such little storage is a bit much.
Still, I would have LOVED if this think could have also acted as an in-line 'remote' for my regular iPods.

Yeah, that's why I'm planning on getting one of the iPod shuffles -- I typically listened to my old iPod on shuffle almost all the time. At least, I did until I dropped it while on the treadmill at the gym and then stepped on it. I now have a 15GB doorstop/paperweight, which is another reason I think I'll prefer the (look, it's wearable!) shuffle.
And oy, the day I start making purchases based on what they're doing in Manhattan.... ;)

I tried to buy the Shuffle moments after the keynote, but the online Apple Store was so slow under the load that I almost stopped. Then I started getting persistant, reproducable "back end server generated an error" messages, and gave up. Later, I asked my Jeff if the Shuffle, at it's tiny cost, appealed. He said no, he wants the full-featured beasts...
Lesson to Apple - prepare for scaling your capacity during heavy load moments or lose the sale of the impulse buyers like me.
I do want the new iLife, though.

I think there's an Mac 12 step program out there somewhere for you. :)
I'm glad my addictions are only to buying clothing and cologne.

Someone described the mini as Apple's version of a cute chihuahua.

Joe, I already HAVE the iPod Photo for conspicuous consumption. I want the iShuffle for shuffling around the gym. As someone already pointed out. Dropping a $600+ dollar piece of equipment on the treadmill can be heartbreaking.
Sure they could have thrown in a 2 line display. That would have told me what I was listening to "Brazen (We" by "Sunk An"? and then scrolled arount in a glorious 1/2 square inch to tell me how much time left on the track?
When I want glorious display, i'll get out the phoPod and view the album cover. I wonder when they'll port the itunes visualizer to the pod. :)
Lastly, with the white buds in your ears and the gumstick inside your jacket pocket, who can tell you have the inexpensive model?

Oh, that reminds me. Those ear buds? They totally look like hearing aids. Seriously. Totally.

When it comes to Macs, I have a confirmed diagnosis of "I don't care that I don't need it." I lust for the new Mac Mini.
